This was really good. Very interesting to hear the student’s view on Chinese and Japanese education. Wasn’t sure about the 50% being a failing grade in ‘the west’ comment though. It would be a passing grade in some western countries. A % alone is irrelevant when comparing two different countries’ systems as the grading systems may be very different. Indeed, they clearly are as 50% would be a pass in some western countries, so i think it’s important not to confuse one western education system with all western education systems.
That minor point aside, I thought this was very well done and am looking forward to the next episodes..

    Hey,
Your point on clarifying grading systems in “the west” is very well-taken, especially since the term itself is quite broad and encompasses a host of countries. It’s definitely something I’ll bear in mind in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

No problem. Enjoyed listening and made me think a bit more about the education system here. Was impressed by the Chinese kid’s English, too, (Oh, and sorry this comment appeared here rather than after the kokoro broadcast – I must have messed up somehow!)
